Zeromow is a non-profit initiative aimed at creating awareness of the benefits of battery electric lawn and garden maintenance equipment and electric vehicles powered by 100% renewable energy.

What does Zeromow do?

To help create awareness and demonstrate the benefits of battery electric alternatives, Zeromow provides:

• A free loan of cordless battery powered gardening and mowing equipment to landscape and mowing contractors, businesses and individuals.

• Free demonstrations of equipment and electric vehicles.

• A list and star-rating of landscape and lawn maintenance services that use battery powered equipment.

• Resources - including information on equipment and electric vehicles

Why Zeromow?

The use of fossil-fuel powered outdoor equipment such as mowers, leaf blowers, brushcutters, hedge trimmers and chainsaws, is a growing source of air and noise pollution and of greenhouse gas emissions.

The vision of Zeromow is to see the rapid transition to cordless battery electric mowing and gardening equipment and electric vehicles using 100% renewable energy, reducing noise and air pollution and producing zero greenhouse gas emissions.

All of Zeromow’s equipment and the vehicles we drive are fully battery electric and powered by 100% renewable energy.

Why do we need battery electric alternatives?

Battery electric alternatives are cleaner, quieter, lighter, more efficient, simpler to use, cheaper to run and maintain, have no fumes, have minimal vibration, use no petrol or oil, and have zero emissions.

Fossil-fuel powered machines are especially high polluters relative to their engine size and usage. For example, a two-stroke leaf blower used for one hour can produce as much hydrocarbons as 150 cars over the same time.

It is estimated that Australia could prevent the creation of over 1.9 million tonnes of CO2 emissions over the next 20 years if we were to transition to lower-emitting alternatives.

2023 was the hottest year on record globally. The scientific case for urgent climate action could not be clearer. We must lower emissions urgently to limit global warming and make the rapid transition to 100% renewable energy.

Electrifying transport and outdoor equipment goes hand in hand with making the transition to 100% renewable energy.

How can you help?

• If you are using petrol equipment to maintain your lawn and garden please make the switch to electric.

• If you use a mowing service to look after your lawn and garden then encourage them to make the transition to battery-electric. Offer access to onsite electricity, preferably produced from renewable sources such as rooftop Solar PV.
